Jane Eyre
and Rotary star at Stampex
HIGHLIGHTS of this year's Spring Stampex will be the Royal Mail launch
of the Jane Eyre stamps and Brontë Sisters PSB on February 24
with a special Stampex fdi cancellation, and an exhibition mounted
by Rotary International to celebrate its centenary.
As well as the usual mix of dealers' stands with about a fifth from
overseas (up-dated list on www.philatelic-traders-society.co.uk)
the Manchester Postal Museum, Bath Postal Museum, and BFPO will also
be present.
Philatex attracts the societies
PHILATEX - The London International
Stamp & Cover Show - opens
at 11.00 on Thursday February 24 to the public, but bona fide dealers
(PTS, ASDA, IFSDA, etc) can enter one hour earlier. Up to 110 dealers
will be in the Lawrence Hall of the Royal Horticultural Society
in Greycoat Street, Westminster, London SW1. About a quarter of
these are from overseas, and several will also be participating
at Stampex.
A record number (16) of societies have booked meeting rooms for
the third and final day, Saturday February 26.
Death of Ken Lake
Long-time contributor to the ‘Philatelic Exporter’,
Kenneth R Lake, died at the age of 73 on Sunday January 23 2005
after a short illness. An obituary will appear in the March 2005 ‘Philatelic
Exporter’.
ASDA spring show date change
ASDA’s Spring 2005 Postage
Mega-Event has been brought forward by a fortnight from March
17 to 20 to March 3 to 6. The venue is
still the Madison Square Garden, Expo Center, 4 Pennsylvania Plaza,
New York City.

on February 8, when it features six stunning photographs capturing
the beautiful area of the South West.
Like the three British Journey issues before it, the designers set
out to convey the distinctive characteristics of each country, region,

Stampex launch for Jane Eyre stamps
WHEN it was published Jane Eyre caused a sensation; now 150 years
after Charlotte Brontë’s death, Royal Mail is to mark
the anniversary with six stamps based on her timeless classic.
The stamps, to be issued on February 24 - second day of Spring Stampex
- feature six lithographs by artist Paula Rego.
